Where can I find my Chamber of Commerce VAT number?

As a company, you regularly need your VAT number and your KVK number. These are two different numbers. You will receive these automatically when you register your company with the KVK. These are important numbers for you as an entrepreneur.

Where can I find my VAT ID after registering with the Chamber of Commerce?

If you have registered with the Chamber of Commerce (KVK), you will receive your VAT identification number (VAT ID) from the Tax Authorities within a few days. You need this number for your invoices, website and communication with customers.

Where can you find your VAT ID?

Your VAT ID is in the Tax Authorities' business portal: My Tax Service Business. After logging in, click on the tab 'VAT', where you can both VAT ID if you sales tax number (OB number) can see.

What is the difference between VAT ID and Sales Tax Number?

  • VAT ID: This is used for external communication. For sole proprietorships it starts with 'NL', followed by 9 digits, the letter 'B' and two check digits. For example: NL123456789B01.
  • Sales tax number (OB number): This is only for communication with the Tax Authorities, for example when filing VAT returns. It contains your BSN and looks about the same, but you are not allowed to include it on your invoices for privacy reasons.

NB:

This difference was introduced a few years ago because of the privacy of freelancers. Because the personal BSN number was in the OB number, this was very susceptible to fraud, which is now fortunately locked up.
